Signature scent: A bold blend of cutting-edge design and development

Notewrks is a modern, genderless cologne brand from Snif, a New York based fragrance company committed to making luxury fragrance accessible to everyone. Snif’s products are crafted with high-quality, ethically-sourced ingredients and are clean, vegan, and cruelty-free. To create just the right blend of design and tech for Notewrks, Snif turned to ehouse, its long-term collaborator, to solve the unique development challenges involved in bringing Notewrks’ avant-garde brand to life online.

The Challenge


To launch its new cologne brand Notewrks, Snif wanted a sub-brand site within its existing Shopify theme – that used completely different fonts, colors, and styles. The unconventional designs the Snif team presented were boldly distinct and dynamic – and would require innovative solution engineering from ehouse’s developers to pull off.

The Solution

When Pointer Creative (now a part of ehouse) completed a full custom build of the Snif site four years ago, the team strategically created a system to turbocharge the Shopify theme and enable total content and design flexibility for future brand experimentation. The system includes a network of granular controls – from multiple fonts and colors to button styles and spacing – that can be applied throughout the site. Leveraging this system, ehouse also added new tools tailored for the Notewrks site, significantly reducing development time and stability risks. Unique development challenges included:

  • Liquid Glass: Snif asked ehouse to replicate Apple’s Liquid Glass effect for Notewrk’s navigation bar – before Apple released it. Using new tools, ingenuity, and careful testing, ehouse delivered a sleek warping effect as users scrolled.
  • Non-standard shapes: To mimic the organic forms of Notewrks’ packaging on the product page (PDP), ehouse engineered custom shapes, which aren’t typically possible to create in HTML.
  • Staggered photo grid: ehouse developed a dynamic grid that displays an artfully random layout of photos that scales on any device.

The Result

Snif is enjoying the sweet smell of success with Notewrks’ fast, design-forward sub-site, which was delivered in just 2.5 months. ehouse’s boundary-pushing collaboration produced a win-win: a site that’s highly customizable and responsive, while still easy for the internal team to manage.

For Notewrks, it was important to us to push the boundaries and incorporate music-led elements as well as animations.
