Your next drop never appears on your site. It exists only in the catalog feed that AI assistants read. A shopper asks ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Copilot for it, and the assistant surfaces it, prices it, and completes the order. Your own homepage has no idea the product exists.
This is possible because the second storefront already went live. Shopify turned on Agentic Storefronts in December 2025, syndicating merchant catalogs to ChatGPT, Copilot, and Perplexity by default. Shopify reported an 11x increase in orders coming from AI search. Argue with the number if you want. The direction is what matters, and you are already on that surface whether you planned for it or not.
The mechanics are small. You publish the product to the catalog surfaces only, keep it unlisted on the storefront, and gate checkout so the order has to arrive through the agentic path. The customer experience is strange and good. There is no URL to text a friend. There is only a prompt worth repeating, which is a very different kind of word of mouth. Operations barely move: same inventory, same pick and pack, same returns policy.
The catch is severe and worth stating plainly. You cannot merchandise a product nobody can see. No homepage hero, no email banner, no paid social pointing at a landing page. You give up every conversion lever you have spent years tuning and hand discovery to ranking systems you do not control and cannot audit. If the assistants do not surface it, the drop simply does not happen. Keep the run small, treat it as press and learning rather than a revenue line, and set the date you will pull it before you set the date you will launch it.
Every merchandising instinct you have assumes a shopper who browses. A growing share of them delegate instead. Building 1 product for that shopper teaches you more in 3 weeks than another quarter of reading about agentic commerce.
