What if the fitting room followed the customer?

Google does try-on from 1 selfie in Search. Your catalog data decides whether you are in it.

Your fitting room is no longer on your product page. It is inside Google Search, running on a selfie the customer took 4 seconds ago.

Google shipped virtual try-on in Search and AI Mode across 2025 and 2026, generating a fitted image from a single uploaded photo. Shop Minis launched with try-on as a showcase use case. That puts 2 of the largest discovery surfaces in commerce in a position to show a shopper wearing your product before they have ever visited your site.

The work behind it is much less exciting than the outcome. Clean catalog feeds come first: accurate colorways, consistent flat or on-model imagery, correct category and material attributes, sizes that map to something standard. Try-on output is only as good as the product data underneath it, so feed quality is the real moat here. It is also the least glamorous project on your roadmap and the easiest one to keep deferring.

Once the feed is right, put the same mirror everywhere the customer already stands. Google's surfaces handle cold discovery. A Shop Mini covers the Shop app. Your product page serves the people who arrived on purpose. Same catalog, 3 fitting rooms, 1 operational job: keep the data accurate as the assortment turns over.

The catch is expectation. A generated image of someone in your dress is a specific promise about drape, fit, and color that production now has to keep. Try-on tends to cut size-related returns and raise complaints about color accuracy, because you showed the customer something concrete rather than a styled photo. An inconsistent dye lot stops being a mild surprise and becomes a visible broken promise. Photograph honestly, and fix the products that only look good in a lookbook.

Try-on does not sell clothes. It removes the last excuse a shopper had not to decide, which is only good news if the product is genuinely good.

Take this further

Try-on only works when your product data is clean enough to feed it, which is the same groundwork that helps you show up in AI search. ehouse audits exactly that. A good starting point.
