Top Marks: Tailoring Customers’ Experiences to Advance their Learning Journeys

Circle of Security International (COSI) offers educational programs and resources to equip caregivers with skills to build stronger caregiver-child relationships, which are essential for children’s healthy social-emotional development. The Challenge


COSI’s goal was to make it easy for learners to take courses and access educational resources. But it's registration process and technology to support the learning journey did not match the quality of their content, and needed to be restructured. With so many variables – topics, audiences, in-person locations, prerequisites – learners struggled to find the courses that they were eligible for in their progression.

The Solution

Meeting COSI’s exacting requirements for its education model meant pushing Shopify beyond its limits.

Cross-functional expertise: Tackling this non-standard use case on Shopify required creative solution engineering and deep knowledge of the Shopify platform and its app ecosystem. ehouse led the cross-functional team, working closely with COSI, creative agency Chameleon Collective, and NetSuite partner ScaleNorth to align on three critical components: functionality, design, and data.

Integration: To create a seamless experience for learners, the team integrated Shopify, an ecosystem of apps, to COSI's existing ERP (NetSuite). ehouse’s solution enables learners to only register for courses through a custom logic that dynamically shows/hides/gates content; register for and manage courses, access a library of asynchronous learning materials; and attend live, online courses to earn certificates of completion.

Custom development: To enable features that aren’t natively supported by Shopify, ehouse built custom functionality to support multi-attendee registration within a single purchase in Shopify Checkout. And, to streamline course management, ehouse automated the creation of personalized dashboards on Shopify for each learner and for administrators to have visibility into team progress (powered by data in NetSuite).

Additional project highlights include:

  • UI/UX best practices for intuitive product listing and product pages (PLPs and PDPs) with custom data fields to dynamically display key information such as region, date, and registration window
  • Waitlist signup with auto-generated emails/SMS notifications to reduce potential lost sales
  • Custom app to create a Facilitator Directory to showcase facilitator profiles and help customers find facilitators
  • Established infrastructure for a future membership program
