The Chalkboard Blog

What's the {e} house chalkboard? It's our blank slate, where we post important messages, share cool thoughts, trade new ideas and have creative fun. Stop by often for our anecdotes on growing the agency as well as our thoughts and ideas on marketing, design, business and culture. Really, our chalkboard is like any chalkboard you'd find in a home, except this one has no limits.

Our site has been featured in the June 2008 issue of “Web Designing”, a monthly publication in Japan. The four page spread article is a CSS Analysis titled “Keep it simple”.

We would love to know what it says, if anyone has any recommendations for a Japanese to English translation service.

After moving into our second office space in one year, all of us here at {e} realize the importance of working in a creative environment in order to create good work and stay inspired. If your office is getting ready to make a big move or is just in need of a “creative” makeover, I hope this post will give you a place to start and guide you in the direction of making your office space (or any space for that matter) a creative place that keeps you motivated, while maintaining a high level of functionality.

As an avid cyclist, I, along with many of my weight weenie friends, can tell you that I do just about anything to shed a few grams from my bike. That’s right, a few grams. I replace the tiny bolts that hold my water bottle cage with special light titanium bolts. I buy a seat that is as hard as a rock and makes my junk go numb on any ride over 20 miles because it only weighs 130grams. I purchase a seatpost clamp for $80 because it was 10grams lighter than my original seatpost clamp. Yeah, that is $80 for that tiny piece of now carbon material that tightens the seatpost to the frame. For me, and millions of other cyclists out there, upgrading my bike is an addiction.

Update - New Changes to Our Site

March 11th, 2008 by Medéa - 1 Comment

If you haven’t noticed already, our site has a new look and some fun, noteworthy, new content. We’re excited about the changes and we hope you are too. So, check it out. And if you get a chance, let us know what you think.

New Home Page Website Design

Recycled SymbolYou would have to live under a rock to be unaware that the environment is a hot topic. As a result, many companies are making an effort to help save our natural resources. In fact, it has become quite trendy to “go green”. Saving the environment is not just for tree-huggers anymore, so why not join the cool crowd and do your part. You may already recycle and use energy saving light bulbs in your office (You get a big pat on the back for that.), but chances are that few people outside of your company staff see those efforts. A great way to advertise (That’s what we do best!) the fact that you care about the environment is to print your business cards, stationery, note cards, folders, and any other company correspondence on recycled paper. This way you can proudly hand out your sparkling documents embellished with the well-recognized and super-hip recycling logo. According to www.mohawkpaper.com, by printing 10,000 copies of an 8-page, 8.5” x 11” brochure printed on 100lb, coated, cover stock made with windpower would result in the below environmental savings.

Now that you’re ready to be crowned Green King or Queen, you are probably wondering, “How many frogs do I have to kiss?” The truth is that you don’t have to pay a huge price to be cool. It’s actually very affordable. Check out this quote from Nick Klausner, President and CEO of River Rock Marketing, our favorite printing company,”Under ideal circumstances a client may actually save money switching to a recycled, FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) stock. On average a client will pay between 0% - 15% (above the price of non-recycled stock) when switching to environmentally friendly papers….”

So, next time you need to reprint your company materials, forget about your favorite color and go green. All the popular companies are doing it.
